ICICI Bank and TMC Lay Foundation for Advanced Cancer Care Block in Visakhapatnam 6m10

13th Jun 2025, Visakhapatnam : ICICI Bank has announced that it has started construction work on a new building at the Homi Baba Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in association with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). f6x2h

ICICI Bank is providing funds with a commitment of over Rs. 550 crore for the construction of this state-of-the-art center, which will be spread over an area of ​​approximately 3.9 lakh sq. ft. and equipped with the latest medical technology.

The new eight-storey ICICI Foundation Block for Child and Blood Cancer building, once completed, will be able to serve 3,000 patients annually. The current annual capacity of HBCHRC in Visakhapatnam is 6,200 patients.

The new building, which is being designed to be one of the best specialized cancer treatment centers in Eastern India, will have over 215 beds. It is expected to be completed by 2027, subject to all approvals. ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank, will oversee its implementation.

ICICI Bank Chairman Mr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha unveiled the foundation stone of the new building in the presence of Mr. Sandeep Batra, Executive Director, ICICI Bank, and Dr. Sudeep Gupta, Director, Tata Memorial Centre (Mumbai).

Mr. Sinha also inaugurated the NK Rao Auditorium in the presence of other dignitaries. ICICI Foundation has provided assistance to TMC in of infrastructure and equipment for the new auditorium.

It will also be one of the largest projects in the Eastern Corridor for pediatric and hematological cancers. It will serve patients in Andhra Pradesh and the ading eastern states. It will help meet the growing cancer treatment needs,” said Mr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Chairman, ICICI Bank.

Two years ago, we partnered with TMC, a leading provider of cancer care in India, by committing Rs. 1,200 crore to set up three new TMC centres in Visakhapatnam, Navi Mumbai and New Chandigarh. We are pleased to announce that we are increasing this amount to Rs. 1,800 crore in view of TMC’s latest requirements. These new blocks, spread over 10.7 lakh sq ft, will house state-of-the-art medical facilities and research departments. These blocks will have a total of 19 LINACs* and 555 beds. Once fully operational, they will act as regional hubs,” said Mr. Sandeep Batra, Executive Director, ICICI Bank .

“Pediatric & Hematolymphoid Cancers require specialized care in of diagnostic tests, evaluation, treatment, as well as services and skills like blood center, nutrition, rehabilitation. HBCHRC, Visakhapatnam, has been ing around 200 new pediatric cancer patients and 350-400 hematolymphoid cancer patients daily for the last three years. This new block will help in significantly expanding the existing services along with the bone marrow transplant program and also introducing immunotherapy. It will also provide significant scope for conducting research related to patients regionally,” said Dr. Girish Chinnaswamy, Professor & Head, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.

The Rs. 550 crore donation to the Visakhapatnam hospital will be part of the Rs. 1,800 crore donation to be made by ICICI Bank.
